A New Way to Cruise the Douro

TUI River Cruises has revealed plans for its largest summer programme ever, with 35 sailings across Europe in 2027. Leading the news is the arrival of T UI Luzia, the line’s first-ever purpose-built ship, which will debut on the River Douro in Portugal.

At Cruise Addicted, we think it’s great to see another line offering Douro itineraries – especially one that will likely come at a more accessible price point compared to some of the ultra-luxury lines already on the river.

Meet TUI Luzia

Meaning “light” in Portuguese, TUI Luzia will carry just 111 guests across four decks.

Highlights include:

Top deck pool & loungers for relaxed sailing days

Novo lounge bar and new Cinder dining area for casual drinks and bites

Wellness space with yoga by day, intimate lounge by night

Portuguese-inspired dining at Vinha

The ship will offer seven-night round-trip sailings from Porto, with stops at UNESCO-listed towns such as Peso de Regua and Barca d’Alva, as well as a call at Vega de Terron for the Spanish city of Salamanca.

New Destinations for 2027

Alongside TUI Luzia, TUI River Cruises will also add new ports of call:

Zaandam, Netherlands (on TUI Aria’s Dutch Delta Discovery)

Aljmas, Croatia (on TUI Maya’s East Danube Delights)

And with cruises ranging from three to fifteen nights, there’s plenty of flexibility for first-timers and seasoned river cruisers alike.

When to Book

The 2027 itineraries go on sale 16 October 2025, with pre-registration available now. Prices start from £899 per person for a three-night Grand Capitals sailing.

Cruise Addicted’s Take

We love the Douro – it’s one of Europe’s most beautiful river valleys. And while the luxury lines already offer some incredible itineraries here, it’s exciting to see TUI stepping in with a fresh, good-value option. For many cruisers, this could open up the Douro experience in a way that feels more accessible without losing the magic of the destination. Can’t wait to see the light!!
