As the stars sparkled in the Fort Lauderdale sky, Hollywood couple Camila and Matthew McConaughey officially christened Star Princess, the newest and most innovative ship from Princess Cruises. The dazzling ceremony marked a milestone moment for the cruise line, complete with a live performance by nine-time Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow, a breathtaking drone show, and plenty of signature Princess glamour.
In true McConaughey style, the couple christened the ship by breaking a bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila—the brand they co-founded—to bless Star Princess and all who sail on her. Hosted by travel and lifestyle TV personality Dawn McCoy, the ceremony took place inside the spectacular Princess Arena, where guests were treated to heartfelt tributes from Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha and Captain Gennaro Arma before the evening’s grand musical finale.

“It’s an honour to follow in the footsteps of past godparents and welcome Star Princess into the Princess fleet,” said Camila and Matthew. “We’re excited to share this moment with everyone who steps aboard—coming together with family and friends, making new memories, and sharing a Pantalones cocktail, or two.”
Following the celebration, a shimmering drone show lit up the night sky, symbolising Star Princess’ upcoming adventures in Alaska—the next chapter for this incredible new ship.
The 177,800-ton Star Princess, sister to Sun Princess, represents the next generation of The Love Boat. Designed for 4,300 guests, she blends modern luxury with Princess’ signature warmth and service. Highlights include:
Sun Princess
The Sanctuary Collection – an exclusive retreat featuring private dining, a tranquil adults-only pool deck, and beautifully appointed suites and mini-suites.
The Dome – a glass-enclosed space that hosts the new Candlelight Concert Series, offering a truly magical ambience under the stars.
Spellbound by Magic Castle – a speakeasy-style experience combining illusion, theatre and a dash of old-Hollywood mystery.
The Princess Arena – the most technologically advanced theatre at sea, now home to two new original productions, Meridian and Illuminate.
A stunning Piazza with sweeping ocean views, ideal for dining, music and mingling.
More than 30 dining and bar venues, including cocktails crafted with Pantalones Organic Tequila.
After her transatlantic crossing, Star Princess now begins her Caribbean season from Fort Lauderdale, before heading through the Panama Canal to Seattle for a summer of 7-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises in 2026.
